The color pink is much like "The Color Purple," an Academy nominated film, however instead of dealing with an oppression of race, it is an oppression of liberty, freedom of expression and the right to choose. No, I'm not talking about abortion here, but the American way of life. It's being hijacked in the name of globalization and sustainable development. The City of Guntersville chose to adopt the international building code regulations which stipulate that all buildings be painted in harmonious colors. When one thinks of harmonious colors, one should think of the common areas in Berlin or Moscow and their cold, lifeless buildings, all painted in the same drab color scheme. One should be able to see very clearly the direction in which we are all headed. You have a design board which was appointed by the city council. The members of this so-called design board are non-elected. The people have no voice to vote them in or out. They are made up of members of the elite in Guntersville whose family names are well known around town. I guess it's plain to see the "good old boy system" fits in nicely when it comes to globalization and sustainability. Since the design board is untouchable, the only solution seems to be to demand that the city council and mayor dissolve this non-elected board and stop holding international court. It's high time the council and mayor start answering to the people who elected them, instead of the other way round. I urge everyone to please call them and let them know how much you strongly disagree with their unscrupulous practices, unless of course you buy into their sustainable ideology or prefer to live under the iron curtain, as they continue to build their socialistic society. I was appalled as I watched the Sugar Bowl a few weeks ago, after seeing an advertisement which featured a young lady with the University of Georgia. She stated she wanted to learn how to become a better global citizen. Whatever happened to being a proud American citizen? Our great nation and the freedoms that we all enjoy are under attack from every angle. Why are our elected officials, both Democrat and Republican alike embracing this new found religion of sustainability born of United Nations doctrine? Why are they implementing and replacing our beliefs, values and laws with that of the international set? Why are we allowing them to teach this kind of hogwash in our colleges and schools? Wake up folks, the time is now to start taking a stand. If we want to keep our liberty, we’ve got to get involved and stay involved. I've got two words left to say. Think pink.
